From what others have said, it’s highly unlikely that our kitties will need to relieve themselves while traveling. Cats do a really good job of going into shutdown mode whenever their environment gets a little suspect.

Still, we wanted to give them the opportunity, and when we first started thinking about traveling, we always assumed we’d need to drive for a day, overnight in a hotel, and fly the next day. That would mean we’d definitely need to come up with something we could use as a litter box along the way.

A person in one of the Facebook groups for pet travel recommended a portable litter box for traveling, and I was intrigued, as I’d never heard of such a thing before! I started poking around on Amazon (as one does) and found one that seemed promising, so I ordered it.
This portable litter box received almost 5 stars with over 1,100 ratings, and it didn’t disappoint. It seems really well-constructed with durable materials, and it somehow magically folds down into a small square when not in use. Plus, it comes with a scoop and a travel bowl.

What I really like about this is that it could make a really great travel case, too. Since we purchased two, we might end up using one as a littler box and the other one to store all the cats’ travel items, such as food, bowls, a baggie of litter, the blankets and pads, and potty pads. Hey, I’m a Professional Organizer, I love to keep things well-organized!
The best part is we’ll have something we can use for a litter box when we arrive at our place in Portugal, in case we don’t have a chance to get set up before we arrive.
